Kilmainham 2-17 Drumbaragh 0-10

Both sides needed to win this last group match at Pairc Colmcille Kells last Saturday evening in order to avoid the dreaded relegation battle. 

It was Kilmainham who responded best to the task with a 13 point victory over Drumbaragh in a game that was action packed from start to finish, much to the delight of the large attendance.

Kilmainham started with all guns blazing cutting through the Drumbaragh defence and popping over three unanswered points from Mickey Newman (2) and Ger Morgan in the opening six minutes. 

The winners pushed further ahead with fine goals from Conor Kilgallen and Freddie Newman and their lead was out to ten points after twelve minutes. 

Kilmainham led by 2-08 to 0-6 at the interval.

John Tiernan's charges were determined to keep up the pressure and not let Drumbaragh back into the game. From the throw in Mickey Newman scored a fine point from play and a minute later Shane Morgan got in on the scoring act.

Midfielder Barry Lynch received a black card but this did not stop their momentum as Kilmainham were unrelenting in their scoring. Newman, twice, and Paul Farrelly extended their lead. 

Drumbaragh were dealth another blow on the 50th minute mark when full forward James Connolly was red carded.

The Newman's Mickey, Denis and Stephen finished out they scoring as Kilmainham recorded a comfortable victory to preserve their Intermediate status for another year. Drumbaragh face into the relegation battle with Cortown and Longwood.
