IFC: Curraha move to the top of Group C

August 22, 2016

Conor Moriarty - St Vincent's/Curraha

Curraha 1-15 Drumbaragh 2-07

Curraha had a convincing win over Drumbaragh in this Group C re-fixture which saw them move to the summit of the group with one round remaining.

Drumbaragh opened the scoring on the two minute mark but two Sean Keogh frees (one from 50yards) had Curraha in front. Curraha had plenty of possession in the opening half but were unable to covert that possession to scores but a Ciaran O'Hanrahan point did extend the lead to two at the half way stage of the opening half. Colm Carry and Brian Murphy traded points before Drumbaragh hit a purple patch. The North Kells team added 1-01 without reply with Carry raising the green flag and causing havoc for the Curraha defence. Curraha responded well and started to be more clinical and patient with their attacking play and this resulted in three unanswered points from Murphy, Neil Shortall and substitute Conor Moriarty to put their side one ahead but an injury time point from Drumbaragh had the sides level at the break on a score line of 0-07 to 1-04.

Curraha knew they were in a game and John O'Brien's players came out all guns blazing in the second half and raised a green flag of their own inside the opening two minutes after Moriarty got on the end of a well worked move. Drumbaragh responded with a point from a free but Curraha were upping the ante and three unanswered points pushed them ahead with Moriarty adding his second, sub Niall Murphy and man of the match David Toner also adding one. Toner cancelled out another Drumbaragh free to leave his side in front by five at mid-way mark of the second half. Another free from Drumbaragh was added but Curraha pulled further clear with a Moriarty free along with two Sean O'Hanrahan points. Going into injury time Drumbaragh tried hard to get back into the game but Curraha's defence stood firm and Toner added his third point. A long high ball ended up in the back of the Curraha net at the very end but this was nothing more than a consolation goal for Drumbaragh.

Best for Curraha were Toner, Murphy, O'Hanrahan and Moriarty.
