SFC Group B: Dunboyne display title credentials

August 15, 2016

Dunboyne's Shane Comiskey with Caolan Young Summerhill.

In proving too good for Summerhill in this hoganstand.com SFC Group B round three fixture at Dunshaughlin on Sunday evening, Dunboyne displayed title-winning form.

Dunboyne 0-17
Summerhill 1-8

Billed as the tie of round, it was one of the closest. More importantly Dunboyne's display was the most impressive of the weekend given the calibre of their opponents.

Conor O'Donoghue's men started well and responded positively to the concession of the game's only goal in the 11th minute.

A strong collective effort combined with some outstanding individual displays were the hallmarks of Dunboyne showing at the impressively refurbished Dunshaughlin venue.

Dunboyne registered nearly twice as many scores as Summerhill in posting their third win from as many championship outings.

Robbie McCarthy's six-point haul included five from play. Donal Lenihan had just one less that included a pointed 45. Ronan Jones capped a strong showing at midfield with two scores from play.

Jordan McLoughlin was a tenacious figure in defence where Cathal Finn was impressive. David Gallagher's experience was a useful asset at midfield.

Dunboyne's first five scores came from as many different players. Their number of scorers wasn't added to but the spread meant that four players managed two or more.

These were the first points dropped by Summerhill in the campaign. Davy Larkin's goal offered brief respite for the men in blue and gold.

Jones got the next score after Larkin's goal while another from McCarthy quickly followed. It ensured last year's beaten semi-finalists kept Summerhill at a distance.

On two further occasions in the opening half, they managed to cut through the Dunboyne rearguard at pace. However, the end product was lacking.

By half-time, on a calm dry evening, Dunboyne led by 0-9 to 1-3.

Within 30 seconds of resumption Shane McEntee placed McCarthy for another score. Good scores from Barry Dardis and Padraig Geraghty offered Summerhill some hope. Each time Dunboyne replied with a point.

Next up for Summerhill is a tilt at Duleek-Bellewstown at Dunsany next Sunday. On Saturday evening, Dunboyne face St Patrick's at Duleek.
