May 16, 2016

Barry Mooney St Pats makes a great block on Conal McGinley Duleek Bellewstown during the hoganstand.com Meath SFC game in Seneschalstown.

St Pats 0-11 Duleek/ Bellewstown 0-11

A scorching Seneschalstown's evening was the setting for this local derby where tension was high as two points were vital for both sides. But it was a serious looking knee injury in the opening minutes to Duleek/Bellewstown's Mark Collins that was the talking point as both teams had to settle for a draw.

After a lengthy stoppage it was Pats who were first off the mark thanks to a point by Donal Landy. Duleek/ Bellewstown pulled one back but the pats raced into a 3-1 point lead with scores from Landy and Mooney. The game settled down soon after with Pats having the better of proceedings in Midfield but failed to really push home this advantage and were unlucky not to have a goal after a long range free from Niall Mooney was met with the fist o Donal Landy only to hit the far post and roll along the goal line somehow not crossing for the goal.

Points were exchanged hereafter with Mooney and Landy hitting for Pats and John Flood and McGinley soring for D/B before Shane Dowling raced through the Duleek/Bellewstown defence to see his shot just blaze over the cross bar leaving the score at half time 0:7 to 0:4 to Pats.

Duleek /Bellewstown started the second half the better and were soon back level with scores from Flood, Howard and McGinley. But Pats then resumed control and found themselves 3 points up again with 8 minutes to go thanks to frees from Niall Whearty, Landy and Niall Mooney and perhaps could have been further ahead but for some unlucky wides and poor handling in attacking areas.

Then came the changing points of the game as Adam Byrne and David Stafford both receiving black cards within a few minutes of each other which opened the door for Duleek Bellewstown to snatch the draw in the last few minutes.
