Skryne 1-15 Blackhall Gaels 0-7.
Skryne got their hoganstand.com Meath Senior football Championship campaign off to a winning start in Duleek on Friday evening by defeating Blackhall Gaels by an easy 11 point margin. Despite fielding without the injured trio of Paddy Fox and County players Patrick O'Rourke and Harry Rooney the Blues were never in danger against a disappointing Gaels side and were 8 points clear at half time.
On a very heavy pitch unsuitable for any good football Skryne were on top in every section of the field and a superb goal from Neil Burke midway through the first half emphasised their dominance. All six forwards, both individually and as a unit, gave their best display of the season so far while Aidan Tuite and Donie Ryan gave the Blues a solid foothold in midfield. Add in the fact that the defence had the measure of their opponents all through meant the result was never in doubt. Skryne led at half time by 1-7 to 0-2.
Even with poor conditions Ian Gillette's kick outs were of the highest quality but with the strong defence in front of him he didn't have a save to make. That defence was well marshalled by Ciaran Lenehan ably assisted by Declan Morley and Tomás McKeown. As already stated, In a forward line in which all six played their part, Mark Battersby, Brian Davis and Conor O'Brien stood out.
Skryne - Ian Gillett. Declan Morley, Niall Lenehan, Mark Jordan. Tomás McKeown, Ciaran Lenehan (0-2), Adam O'Sullivan (0-1). Aidan Tuite, Donie Ryan. Stephen O'Brien, Conor O'Brien (0-3), Brian Davis (0-2). Neil Burke (1-0), Mark Battersby (0-5), Darragh Campion (0-2).
