Simonstown Gaels got their first win in this years hoganstand.com Meath senior football championship with a nine points victory over Blackhall Gaels at Summerhill.

Padraig McKeever opened the scoring for the winners. Sean Whelan levelled for Blackhall before Simonstown enjoyed a purple patch. Sean Tobin sent over three points while McKeever and Michael Brennan also raised white flags to give Colm O'Rourkes charges a 0-6 to 0-1 lead.
With 10 minutes left in the opening half referee Cormac Reilly issued a black card to midfielder Shane O'Rourke. Whelan hit his 3rd point of the match but it was Simonstown who ended the half stronger. Brennan finished a high ball to the net and a minute later Sean Tobin got in for their second goal to give the Navan side a 2-7 to 0-4 interval lead.
Blackhall had that lead down to four points within five minutes of the re-start. Johnny Meyler struck for a goal and Whelan pointed a 45. Simonstown hit back with points from Andrew Kearney (2) and Joe Lyons.
A game Blackhall replied with five unanswered scores, Whelan (3) Alan Nestor and Declan Dalton to narrow the gap to a goal, 2-10 to 1-10. But the winners held their nerve and three points from the impressive Kearney along with a chipped goal from Conor Sheridan sealed their first two points of the campaign.
Group C is now a fairly tight affair.After three matches Gaeil Colmcille, Dunshaughlin and Na Fianna share top spot with four points, Simonstown are on three points, Blackhall Gaels a point behind and Walterstown at the bottom on one point.
