Syddan 2-7

St Colmcilles scored a big win over Syddan at a well appointed Slane last night in Rd3 of the Intermediate Championship.

First blood was to the Syddan boys with an early point but from then on the Cilles settled into their rhythm in an open encounter.

Highlight of the first half was a Jack Reynolds goal and the young star finished a wonderful sweeping move to the net in a move that started with Meath Minor Goalkeeper Jordan Brown.  Despite the Cilles dominance Syddan displayed all their typical fighting spirit to hit two goals to leave the half time score 1-10 to 2-4.

Early unanswered scores by St Colmcilles in the early stages of the second half gave the Seasiders a commanding lead that they would hold all the way to the finishing line.

In a good all round team performance Niall Ronan, Jack Reynolds, Ciaran Kelly, Ben Brennan, Graham Reilly and Cathal Hilliard caught the eye with all 6 forwards getting in the act.  However Micky Conlon will be more than satisfied by the level of performance across the side. For Syddan Daire Rowe was the undoubted star and his performance was one of the most entertaining for the large crowd on the night.

Syddan Report

St Colmcilles 1-21 Syddan 2-7

POWER and passion were in plentyful supply as St Colmcille's blitzed Syddan in the IFC at Toddy Harding Park, Slane.

This was by far the seasiders most impressive outing to date as they maintained their unbeaten run with a clinical display that yeilded 22 scores. The entire Cille's attack contributed to that tally as the Syddan defence was ripped apart time and again by fast and furious football.

The winners weren't in the least flattered by their 11 point winning margin and by the end of the opening quarter had built up a 1-7 to 0-1 lead.

That single Syddan point came from a Gary Farrelly free in the opening minute, the only time the north Meath side led.

Graham Reilly, Ciaran Kelly and James Conlon caused havoc in the Syddan rearguard while the goal came from Jack Reynolds who had the simple task of finishing to the net after county man Reilly split open the Syddan defence.

Goals from Daire Rowe on 18 minutes and Cormac Rowe on the stroke of half-time papered over some of the cracks as Cille's held a 1-9 to 2-3 interval advantage.

By the time Syddan scored in the second half Cille's had added six further points. Syddan did have a glorious chance of a goal shortly after the break but Sean Clare failed to make full contact and the ball went wide of the target.

Talisman Kelly took his tally of points to nine before the finish and Syddan were somewhat fortunate not to be on the receiving end of an even bigger hiding.
