St Colmcilles got got their intermediate championship campaign off to the best possible start with a 1-11 to 0-6 win over last year's beaten finalists Ballinabrackey.
At a well presented Skryne there were many tough exchanges as both sides sought to lay down early markers but it was the Seasiders who opened the scoring with early points by Ciaran Kelly. Graham Reilly was being well marshalled by a strong Bracks defensive unit but his pace and strength caused all sorts of problems.
With Damien Carroll his usual deadly accurate self the half time score was 0-7 to 0-3. The second half was finely balanced but a goal from the impressive Kelly right from the restart give the Seasiders a cushion. The Bracks fought hard in the second half but James Conlon marked his debut at this level with two fine points to kill off the challenge. Final score 1-11 to 0-6
Best for the Cilles in a strong team performance were Metcalfe, Lynch, K Mullan and Kelly. Next up for the blues is a tough task against Oldcastle who will be keen to make a swift return to the senior ranks
