St Peters claimed the LMFM sponsored Meath Minor Football Championship title with a goal to spare over St Colmcilles at Pairc Tailteann. The Dunboyne side won the MFL Division 1 title earlier in the year.
St Peters Dunboyne 2-6
St Colmcilles 1-6
This was an absorbing contest. Dunboyne started out as firm favourites but from the word go it was clear that it was going to be a tight match. St Colmcilles went in at the break two points ahead. Stewart McDonnell opened the scoring after 5 minutes. Dunbooyne were shaky early on and after a few bad wides full back Shane Weston opened their account. The seaside club dominated between the 10th and 20th minutes and were rewarded with points through Conor O'Byrne (2) and James Conlon. David McEntee found his range and sent over two frees but St Colmcilles went in at the break 0-5 to 0-3 ahead.
The game started with a bang in the second half. Corner foward Conor Keeley, the target for most of the Peters attacks, converted a penalty and Dunboyne led for the first time. George Poynton replied for Colmcilles but McEntee landed a great free and Ronan Jones kicked a fine point to put St Peters 1-5 to 0-6 up with ten minutes remaining. The game took another twist when half back Nathan Noone Garland finished to the Dunboyne net and Colmcilles were a point up. St Peters reply was instant. From the next attack Keeley got his second goal and Shane Comiskey followed up with a point to earn victory for Andy McEntee's charges.
After the game Meath Minor Board Chairman John Kavanagh presented the Delaney Cup to Dunboyne joint captains Jordan McLoughlin and Shane Comiskey.
