Trim into SFC final

October 14, 2002
Trim 2-8 Dunboyne 1-9 Two late Paul Gilsenan points inspired Trim to a semi-final victory over Dunboyne in Navan on Sunday 13th October, with the town side running out 2-8 to 1-9 victors. Gilsenan notched up a personal tally of 1-6 in total and played a big part in their win. Although not fit to take part in the International Rules, Meath full-back Darren Fay lined out at midfield for Trim. Although they looked the better of the two sides for much of the game, Trim were lucky to get the win in the end as Dunboyne, without Nigel Crawford, got level in injury time. Extra-time looked likely until Gilsenan rattled off two pointed frees in added time to give Trim the victory. An Eoin McGrath goal after seven minutes and a converted penalty by Gilsenan in the 29th minute sent Trim in 2-5 to 0-4 ahead at the break. Gilsenan pointed early into the second half but Trim failed to find the target for the next 30 minutes. Andy McEntee scored Dunboyne's goal ten minutes into the second period and Robbie Brennan got the sides level late on. However Gilsenan's two last gasp points were to prove the difference at full-time.
