The double is still on for Trim as their footballers earned a quarter final place against Dunderry after they defeated St. Patrick's by three points at Dunsany on Sunday, 30th September. Trim 1-15 St. Patrick's 2-09 Revenge is the sweetest medicine and Trim gave St. Patrick's a large dose of it when they avenged an earlier 11-point defeat to knock the Stamullen men out of the championship. You must feel sorry for Cormac Sullivan and Cormac Murphy, as their football world has collapsed in the space of just eight days. It was better luck for Darren Fay who put his All-Ireland final blues behind him to turn in an impressive performance as Trim advanced. The men in red were five points to the good before Daithi Whyte opened the scoring for Dudley Farrell's St. Patrick's side. That was after 14 minutes but the Pat's more than made amends for their slow start and trailed by only two points at the break, 0-6 to 0-8. It looked good for the Pat's at that stage as they had the breeze to play with during the second thirty minutes. Their confidence looked well placed as three quick points put them ahead for the first time, but Trim levelled before Declan Murray shot them ahead again. Then came the decisive moment as Benny Murray shot to the net with nineteen minutes remaining to put Trim four points to the good. With nine minutes remaining the lead had been extended to eight, 1-14 to 0-9, and the Stamullen crowd started to look towards the exit gates. However, two quick goals from Whyte and substitute Peter Sullivan left just two points between the sides, but Michael Lowther fired over the last score of the game to leave Trim three point winners. St. Patrick's battled hard and were unlucky to lose midfielder Niall Flynn with injury during the first period, but Trim had too much verve for them. Dunderry now stand between Trim and a semi-final place, and with the two sides also due to meet in the hurling decider, there will be plenty of banter between the neighbouring parishes. The football quarter final between Trim and Dunderry will take place in Pairc Tailteann next Saturday at 5pm. Tweet
