Duleek suffer setback at hands of Rathkenny

Duleek suffered a major stback intheir bid to qualify for the knock out stages of this intermediate championship when going down by 8 points to a determined Rathkenny side at Walterstown on Sunday 11th August.
Rathkenny started well with two quick scores Duleek hit back through midfielder Tony Cunningham and Kenneth McDonnell to leave the scores level after 10 mins. Duleek were on top but could not convert their easy chances while Rathkenny looked threatening every time they went forward. Rathkenny hit two more pints to Duleeks one from Michael Johnson during the next ten minutes play until a goal after 21 mins gave Rathkenny a lead they would not lose. Two more points were exchanged before half time with Duleeks scores coming from Cunningham and Karl McDonnell. Rathkenny went in at half time with a 4 point lead.

Duleek started the second half well but some excellent defending kept them score less until the 13 min of the half. Rathkenny could only manage one point in this time. 3 unanswered points for Duleek from Colin Duignan(2) and Johnson left Duleek trailing by 2 half through the half. A point from Rathkenny and a killer goal on 26 mins left Rathkenny 6 points up with 4 mins to play. Duleek fought back with 2 points from Peter Curran and Duignan. An injury time goal from Rathkenny only served to rub salt into the wounds of a defeated Duleek side.
