Dunboyne made a predictable but disappointing exit from the SFC against a somewhat profligate Simonstown Gaels side at Dunshaughlin. Dunboyne 1-09 Simonstown Gaels 2-09 For much of this game, midfield resembled O'Connell Street on a Christmas Eve, but Colm O'Rourke's side made best use of all available slip roads as they led by 1-05 to 0-05 at half time with Shane Kennedy finishing a move to the net that was started by the impressive Colm Brady. Within ten seconds of the restart Dunboyne had restored parity as Nigel Crawford set up Gerard Robinson who used all the experience he garnared at Middlesbrough to beat Gary Lynch and draw the sides level. However, the sucker punch from Simonstown was only seconds away as firstly John Lunney converted a free and then the same player combined with Brady who used all his experience to finish low to the net from close range. Simonstown's inaccuracy always left Dunboyne with a chance but despite scores from towering midfielders Crawford and David Gallagher, Gerard Robinson and substitute David Clarke, they never got the second goal they so badly needed to give them hope.
