SFC: Skryne too strong for Oldcastle
August 16, 2014
Bryan Davis about to gain possession for Skryne against Oldcastle
Skryne 1- 15
Oldcastle 0 - 4
Having already lost in this year's championship too Wolfe Tones, Skryne went to Kilmainham to play Oldcastle needing a win to stay in this year's competition. With the pitch in splendid form and a dry overcast evening, conditions were perfect for the game.
However, it turned out to be a very one sided affair with Skryne posting 1 - 15 to just 0 - 4 for Oldcastle.
Donie Ryan got Skryne on the mark on just two minutes but this was cancelled with a free for the North Meath men on seven.
Meath's goalie Paddy O'Rourke, playing at full forward, then took charge of matters and posted four unanswered points, one a forty five, in a ten minute spell between the twelfth and twenty second minute. Wing back Stephen O'Brien then got his name on the score sheet with a fine individual effort, followed by another minor from David McGoldrick after good work by Brian Davis.
Ian Davis and Paddy O'Rourke put over two more points and on the stroke of half time Oldcastle got their second point leaving the half time score at 0 -9 to 0 -2 in favour of Skryne.
The Oldcastle men had a mini revival of sorts early in the second half and put over two more points which would complete their scoring for the evening. Indeed these were split with a pointed free from Ian Davis and with fifty minutes on the clock the score was Skryne 0 - 10, Oldcastle 0 - 4. Brian Davis posted another minor for the Tara men and on fifty eight minutes the same player finished the game as a contest with a goal. Conor O'Brien, Ian Davis, Paddy O'Rourke and Ciaran Lenehan posted four more points before the final whistle to leave the full time score at Skryne 1- 15, Oldcastle 0 - 4
