Moylan goal knocks back Cortown
April 11, 2003
After a tight first half, a 35th minute goal from full forward Senan Moylan set Walterstown up for a deserved win over Cortown in the Navan Shopping Centre SFC.
Walterstown 1-12
Cortown 0-9
This was a tough tie for Walterstown as Cortown quickly let it be known that they would be no push over. Glen Loughran opened the scoring for Cortown with a free but Walterstown hit back to lead 0-3 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter.
Moylan, Justin McCarthy and Ian Kearney posted scores for the Johnstown side while Loughran was the main scoring threat for the green and golds.
Walterstown were dominating possession but couldn't shake off their tigerish opponents and only went in ahead by the minimum at the break 0-6 to 0-5.
The game was turned on its head wit Moylan's goal five-minutes into the second half and quick points from Charles (2) and Justin McCarthy put the blacks seven-points to the good.
Loughran hit back with a couple of scores before Charles McCarthy - who was very impressive throughout - restored their six-point advantage. It was then up to 'keeper Ian Reilly to save their bacon as he saved well from Cortown's Gary Coyne.
