Na Fianna earned a quarter final place in the SFC in their first year in the grade with a comprehensive win over Simonstown on Sunday in Trim which earned them first place in group C.
Playing with a strong first half wind, Na Fianna took full advantage and scored an early goal with midfielder Jamie Queeney on target. Conor Downey was impressive throughout and he helped himself to two goals while Dalton McDonagh also found the net. Dean Henrick, Shane Barrett, Queeney and McDonagh also added points as Na Fianna earned themselves to a 4-08 to 0-5 lead at half time.
Simonstown came out fighting in the second half and dominated the opening minutes, reeling off five unanswered points, but once Na Fianna found their rhythm again, the lead proved too much for the Navan side to claw back despite a late goal by Shane O'Rourke.
Shane Barrett and Dean Barrett added excellent points and when Henrick found the net in the dying minutes it put the seal on a fine win and guaranteed quarter final place.
