Goal king Cole!

August 25, 2013

Total concentration from Rathmolyon's Mickey Cole
The evergreen Mickey Cole lit up the Meath SHC today when he scored a remarkable SEVEN goals for Rathmolyon in their 7-12 to 0-5 rout of Drumree in Trim.

Twenty years after he bagged a brace of goals against Westmeath in an All-Ireland SHC 'B' final, Cole showed that age isn't a barrier for one of the most prolific forwards the Royal County has ever produced. Five of the 39-year-old's majors came in the first half as last year's county intermediate champions cruised into a 5-4 to 0-3 half-time lead, and preserved their senior status in the process.

Ironically, Cole was Drumree manager when they won the Meath IHC title in 2010. The former Railway Cup star has scored a lot of goals down through the years, but none were more famous that his last-gasp winning goal against Laois in the 2002 Leinster SHC when former Offaly star and TV pundit Michael Duignan was in charge of the Royals.
