Shane and Dean Barrett contributed three goals between them as Na Fianna downed Dunshaughlin in the hoganstand.com SFC at Trim on Saturday evening.

Shane Barrett netted twice in the first-half - with Dean providing the assist for the opener. The third goal arrived at the end of a fine move towards the town goal in the 54th minute.

The wide count further emphasises Na Fianna's superiority with the Enfield, Baconstown and Rathmolyon outfit registering 16 misses to Dunshaughlin's three.

Seven of those Na Fianna misses came in the opening half during which time Dunshaughlin were off target just twice.

Na Fianna might have goaled in the tenth minute but Dalton McDonagh's flick was clear off his line by long-serving Dunshaughlin full-back Kenny McTigue.

McDonagh contributed a trio of points that were matched with tremendous work. That laudable characteristic by his team-mates and by corner-back John Baldwin in particular.

Na Fianna were never headed after Barrett's opening goal in the sixth minute though wind-assisted managed to get back on terms by the 22nd minute.

Both teams came in this game with identical records - one win and one defeat.

With the wind in their sails Dunshaughlin wasted no time in getting scores on the board with Cathal O'Dwyer and Niall Murphy pointing inside 90 seconds.

Before the fifth minute had elapsed Anthony Neary and Dalton McDonagh had Na Fianna on level terms.

Murphy's second point restored Dunshaughlin's advantage before Barrett fisted a cross from brother Dean to the net in the 13th minute.

That left it 1-2 to 0-3 and Na Fianna remained in front to the end. Barrett second goal arrived just before the break following a fine fetch by Daniel Queeney.

Dean Barrett landed the final score of the half - with assistance from Downey and Michael Farley - and the board read 2-5 to 0-5 at the break.

With the wind behind them Dunshaughlin made some inroads into the deficit by the 40th minute, outscoring Na Fianna by 0-3 to 0-1 following the resumption.

That was as good as it got for Dunshaughlin with Na Fianna outscoring them by 1-6 to 0-3 over the final third of the hour.

Farley fired low and wide with a goal attempt in the 49th minute, but Dean Barrett added his second score in the next attack.

The third goal arrived five minutes later with Dean Barrett firing to the net from close range, rounding off a move involving Jamie Queeney, Dean Barrett and Farley.

Before the game a minute's silence was observed in memory of the late Noel Curran while Brendan Cummins paid tribute to the former Meath and Dunshaughlin star.
