U14FC: Trim U14 footballers come up short

May 25, 2013
Trim U14 footballers came up short against a bigger and stronger Ratoath side in this U14 final played in Skyrne on Thursday evening.

Although the margin of the defeat may be a bit harsh on the Trim team, there is no doubt that Ratoath were the better team and deserved winners. Both teams started nervously but Ratoath got the early break with a goal. 2 points from Aaron Lynch settled Trim and when he finished a loose ball to the net after 20 minutes, the scores were tied at 1-2 each. Ratoath kept pushing and finished the half with a flurry to lead 2-5 to 1-2 at half time.

The Trim lads have been putting in big second halves all season, and came out fighting after the break. After 2 or 3 near misses Trim were finally rewarded when Brian Dowling goaled from close range. Trim had the momentum and the next score was going to be crucial to the result. It was - a goal from Ratoath and the game was up. As the Trim heads dropped, Ratoath drove on and a couple of late scores gave them a 14 point winning margin.

Trim can be very proud of their efforts all year and there will be better days ahead. The Ratoath squad, who have lost a few previous finals over the past 3 years, showed admirable hunger and determination, and will no doubt enjoy their victory.
