A strong first half performance from St. Paul's set the platform for a deserved victory over Clonard.
The game started at a blistering pace as both sides registered four early points. Clonard were then awarded a penalty which was subsequently saved by Conor Martin. Clonard registered the next point but St. Paul's responded with a goal from half forward Anthony Barker. The sides then traded points with Anthony Moyles and Dave Sweeney scoring for St. Paul's before the away side registered another goal from Barker to give them a seven point lead. Two late frees from Clonard saw St. Paul's lead 2-7 to 0-8 at the break.
Clonard struck an early point in the second half but two frees from James Maguire gave St. Pauls a six point cushion. The sides again traded points but Clonard could not close the gap as St. Pauls stretched their lead to eight points with Sweeney and sub Philip Connolly scoring points from play. Clonard hit a late point and with the last kick of the game scored a consolation goal.
