May 20, 2013
Ratoath 3-10
Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-3
Last Monday Ratoath came out second best to Kilkdalkey in a tough game played in very unfavourable conditions with a scoreline of 3 - 6 to Ratoath's 2 - 6.
Tonight in near perfect conditions last week's game was put firmly into the archives as they set about the job in hand against Ashbourne. From the throw in Ratoath started strongly and 5 minutes into the game Amy Gaffney got the first point quickly followed by a goal. Not to be outshone by her daughter Siobhan Gaffney soon netted the ball with a fierce ground strike. Adrienne McCann was in fine form tonight and dominated her area with top class camogie. After such a strong start Ratoath seemed to waiver and Ashbourne managed to come back into the game and scored 2 - 2. Amy Gaffney went on to get another point bringing the score to 2 - 3 to 2 - 2 at half time.
With only a point in it Ratoath's captain Sinead Beacan's half time talk was about rousing the team and getting their heads back in the game. Thankfully the captain's words worked and Ratoath set about the second half with new found energy and determination. Adrienne McCann got her just reward with a goal and 2 points and Sinead Beacon added 3 points to the scoreboard. Amy Gaffney brought her personal tally to 1 - 5. While Ashbourne only managed a point in the second half they were never out of the game. There was an incident which saw a player from either side red carded which was unfortunate as it was a great game of camogie with Ratoath running out winners by 10 points in the end. Most notable for Ratoath on the night were Amy Gaffney, Adrienne McCann, Lauren McCann, Louise Gaffney, Sinead Beacan and substitutes Emma McNerney and Alex Doyle.
