St Michaels joint captains Jillian Brogan & Patricia Owens raise the Division 2 Shield at Martry.
St Michaels 3-7
Skryne 0-6
There were smiles all around on the St. Michaels U-16 girls when joint captains Jillian Brogan and Patricia Owens raised the U-16 Shield after a well deserved and merited victory over Skryne in Martry this evening. The St. Michaels girls played with a lot of heart, as they have done throughout the campaign, this time though, they got the reward they deserved.
Sally Keogan was in tip top form and registered the opening two points for the winners, her second to level the match after 12 minutes play and from that point forward St. Micheals held the lead, Emma Farrell pointed on 16 minutes and a cannon of a shot to the back of the net from Patricia Owens put her side 1-3 to 0-2 ahead after 20 minutes. Both teams shared plenty of the ball in the remaining 10 minutes of the half but could only register a point apiece with Niamh Lynch on target for St. Michaels to leave them 1-4 to 0-3 ahead at the interval.
Emily Lynch was first on the scoreboard in the second half with a goal straight from the throw-in, not to be out done, Sally Keogan raised another green flag two minutes later, Jillian Brogan quickly followed up with a point to put St. Michaels into a commanding 3-5 to 0-3 lead after only 35 minutes of play. St. Michaels then went into cruise control as Skryne came back at them, but try as they might Skryne could not make their pressure count on the scoreboard as time and again their attacks were broken down by the ever vigilant backs of St. Michaels of whom Aine Sheridan put in a player of the match performance throughout this game, she was ably assisted by Ellen Cassidy, Hayley Doyle, Laura Halpin & Rebecca Lynch. It was left to Niamh Lynch to complete the scoring with the last two points of the match and the management team will be very pleased with the performance of their team, they arrived with 14 players and every one of them played their hearts out...... WELL DONE GIRLS.
