Boardsmill - Meath Under 16 Ladies Division 1 winners
Boardsmill 3.4
Simonsntown 1.4

Boardsmill girls were crowned U16 champions in Kilbride on Wednesday night last after a keenly contested win over a game Simonstown outfit.

This game between two of the best footballing teams in the division was a close fought contest from start to finish.

Simonstown and Boardsmill know each other well and the game was played in an excellent spirit throughout with many of the girls from both clubs representing their county with distinction in the recent Leinster B championship win over Laois.

Simonstown were first to score but the south Meath girls responded with a quick fire goal and point from Allanah Hannon and Caoimhe Bird. Points were exchanged before Simonstown raised a green flag to leave the minimum between the teams entering the second quarter. Boardsmill's ability to score goals ensured the stayed in front with a second from Hannon and another from impressive midfielder Laura Garrigan. Boardsmill were best served in the first period by Michela Stellini, Allanah Hannon and rampaging half back Raina Griffin.

Half time saw the introduction of Kealey Hannon to corner back for Megan Peppard with Griffin moving to midfield , Kealey moving to centre forward and Sarah Dowling reverting to wing back where she proved very dependable throughout the second period. The changes seem to have the effect of stifling the freedom enjoyed by the Simosntown midfield in the first period and provided Boardsmill with the platform to close out the game.

The second half was a very tense affair where the Boardsmill defence completely on top , shutting out the Simonstown forwards for the entire 30 minutes. That is not to say that there weren't a number of scares for the Mill girls but full back Stellini was ably supported by excellent displays from captain Sarah Bagnall, Niamh McEvoy and Dowling to ensure a winning platform for her team.

Susan Kealey chipped over two excellent points during the half to extend the Boardsmill lead to 6 points. It might have been so much more had a number of key passes not been intercepted by the excellent Emma Cassidy and Sheona Lister for the Navan girls. Simonstown were also well served by their keeper Nicole Byrne who made some outstanding saves on the night.

Raina Griffin was the Boardsmill player of the match, she was ably supported by Michela Stellini and Amy Troy . Others to impress included goal keeper Rhiannon Hoey, Captain Sarah Bagnall , Niamh McEvoy , Susan Kealey , Laura Garrigan and Allanah Hannon.
