HL2: Entertaining draw at Sean Eiffe Park

May 17, 2013

Ratoath's Conor Ward
Ratoath and Wolfe Tones played out an entertaining draw at Seán Eiffe Park last night.

Playing with the wind in the first half Ratoath got off to a dream start with a goal from a 21 yard free from Padraig O'Hanrahan.

Wolfe Tones though eventually settled and kept in touch with points of their own and but for a succession of wides( 7 in total) could well have been ahead at half time.As it was Ratoath were more economical and O'Hanrahan continued to keep the scoreboard ticking with scores from placed balls while Sean Laffey also chipped in with 2 well struck points of his own. This left the score at the break 1-6 to 0-5.

Wolfe Tones were first out of the blocks after the interval with a 3 converted frees and the signs were looking ominous from a Ratoath point of view. Ratoath though kept their heads and were rewarded with a goal from Laffey 13 minutes into the second half. Wolfe Tones quickly replied though with a goal of their own and with 15 minutes to go it was anybody's game. Ratoath soon regained the initiative and scored the next 3 points from frees. They were though too reliant on O'Hnarahan's accuracy from placed balls and inevitably let Wolfe Tones back into it with the next three scores levelling the tie. All in all a fair result and Ratoath can be happy that they didn't lose another close game as has been a habit in recent times. Best for Ratoath were Gavin Hattie, Roger Casey, Ger Clarke,Paul Kirwan, Paul Flaherty and Padraig O'Hanrahan
