U14: Trim earn final place
May 16, 2013

Trim's Mark Murray
Div. 1 Championship Semi Final
Trim 2-8
Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-10
Trim U14 footballers showed tremendous character and self-belief to overcome a very strong Donaghmore/Ashbourne side in this semi final played in Dunsany on Wednesday evening.
With the match coming just 3 days after their victory over Na Fianna it was understandable that Trim got off to a sluggish start. For the first 15 minutes the Trim lads couldn't get hold of the ball and were lucky to be only 3 points down. Gradually they began to claw their way back into the game with points from Aaron Lynch, Robbie Finnegan, Brian Dowling and Gavin Griffith. A Donaghmore/Ashbourne goal just before the break gave them a 4 point cushion at half time, when they probably deserved to be further ahead. Half time: Trim 0-4 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-5.
After a stern talking to at half time, Trim took to the field like men possessed. 'Lynchie' pointed early, Ashbourne replied. Then came Trim's purple patch. Evan Buckley won every ball that went near him and launched attack after attack. Brian Dowling fielded a Buckley pass at the edge of the square and goaled. 2 minutes later Dowling goaled again, this time fisting home a loose ball following confusion in the Ashbourne box. Gavin Griffith clipped over another point and suddenly Trim were 4 clear. Back came Ashbourne and after a good period of pressure they managed to tie the scores with 3 minutes left. The Trim lads never dropped their heads and when Tom Doyle won the ball in the half back line and fed it forward, 'Lynchie' kicked a wonderful point after turning his man inside out. The drama wasn't over yet. In injury time Trim were awarded a penalty. The Ashbourne keeper saved it brilliantly and there was just enough time for them to play the ball forward. However, a long range effort drifted wide and the game was over.
Ratoath are our opponents in the final.
