Gaeil Colmcille put in an impressive performance on Friday night last and came away with a well deserved Seven point win.

It was all to play for, for the Kellsmen after loosing their first round match to St Colmcilles less than two weeks ago.
From the start it was clear that the Gaeils were up for this game, but they had to play catch up on four occasions
with Trim going one in front each time until the seventeenth minute with points coming from Keith Reilly (0-02),, Seamus Mattimoe and Stevie McManus (0-01) each to level matters at (0-04) each.

Danny McGovern got the Gaeils in front with a point in the twentieth minute and from then on it was a scoring spree for the Kellsmen as the forwards hit target on four more occasions, with points from Seamus Mattimoe (0-02), Danny Mcgovern and Brian Hanlon.

The Kells defenders played with a real sense of purpose lead by full back Micky Foley and centre back Robbie Flanagan, Philip Ward and captain Gary Arkins controlled matters at midfield and Jody Devine's men went in at half time leading by 0-10 to 0-04, all scores coming from play, and all Trim scores coming from placed balls.

The second half started with Trim narrowing the gap from a free, but a killer blow came just two minutes later when Martin Barrett gave Trim goalkeeper Brendan Murphy no chance when he blasted to the net after a great passing movement involving Philly Ward and Beano Hanlon.

Tight defending from the Kells backline made it extremely difficult for the Trim attack, who were also playing with fourteen men after the number eight saw red for a hefty challenge on Keith Reilly. A great save by Conor Murray in the closing stages, and a number of shots coming off the post, didn't help Trim, but The Kellsmen never looked like giving up their lead.

Substitute Oisin Reilly brought fresh pace to the attack and put the Gaeils further ahead and it was a lead they would hold on to until the final whistle was blown. Longwood await next for the Kells men and the win on Friday night in Simonstown keeps their championship campaign alive.

Meath Intermediate Football championship, Round 2

This second round championship game was played in Simonstown on Saturday evening last.

Both teams had varying fortunes in the first round with Trim triumphing over Longwood and Kells falling to St. Colmcilles. So it was make or break for the Kells outfit and they certainly approached the game in a manner that they were not to be undone.

Proceedings were even in the first eighteen minutes with only one point between the teams at any stage. Trim were forcing the pace even though against a strong wind. The teams were level on five occasions with the Trim side going ahead by one on each occasion. At this stage the Kells lads opened their chests, upped the pace, ran at and opened up the Trim defence and were rewarded with six points on the trot. Trim had no answer. Half time score Trim 0-4, Colmcille Gaels 0-10.

Spirits were still high in the Trim camp at half time with the realisation that they would be wind assisted in the second half. Within a minute after the resumption they pointed but the turning point of the game came in the third minute. Michael Lowther hit the post with only the goalie to beat. Kells counter attacked from the rebound and with slick movement of the ball down the field they netted past Brendan Murphy at the other end.

Kells went nine points up in the eleventh minute. Trim clawed back two half way through and game then petered out with both sides trading points in the final minutes.
