SFC: Tones beat Pat's
October 02, 2012
Niall Mooney St Pats
St.Patrick's 0-06
Wolfe Tones 0-11
Wolfe Tones overcame St.Patrick's in the quarter final of the hoganstand.com senior football championship in Ashbourne on Sunday night.
Pat's got off to a nightmare start when Ciaran Calvey received a straight red card for an off the ball incident after just four minutes leaving his team-mates the unenviable task of playing almost an entire senior championship game a man down. Wolfe Tones got two quick points from play just after the sending off but found it hard to push on.
Despite being down to 14 men St.Pat's had lots of possession but found it hard to penetrate the Wolfe Tones defence and as a result kicked numerous wides mostly from long range. Wolfe Tones eventually started to make the most of their opportunities sending over three points from play and it wasn't until first half injury time that Pat's finally got off the mark through a Niall Mooney free.
Tones opened up the second half with a point which was quickly cancelled out by a Niall Mooney score which he followed up with another free. Wolfe Tones replied with another brace of points from play before Niall Mooney converted another dead ball for the Pat's. On 45 minutes the Kilberry men sent over another point.
Substitute Shane Landy then popped over a free after the Wofle Tones goal keeper was lucky to only see yellow for a dangerous tackle on his brother Donal. Wolfe Tones came back with another point before Niall Mooney tapped over another free. The Tones rounded off the scoring in the 57th minutes, getting all of their points from play, to leave the final score St.Patrick's 0-06 Wolfe Tones 0-11.
