Reaction: Banty to decide on Meath future within five days

July 28, 2012
Seamus McEnaney says he will decide on his future as Meath Senior Football manager in the next five days.

'Banty' didn't want to be rushed into a decision on whether or not he would stay on as the Royals boss, when speaking in the aftermath of this afternoon's three-point loss to Laois in their Round 4 All-Ireland SFC Qualifier at O'Connor Park.

"This evening is not the time for making decisions like that," McEnaney said.

"I will guarantee you that I am absolutely proud of the Meath players and proud of the young fellas that have come through and proud of my management team.

"They really drove this job on, especially in the last 12 to 14 weeks.

"All I will say is that my decision will be swift - in the next five days, but ye won't be knowing it today!"

Despite this afternoon's loss, and last Sunday's Leinster final defeat McEnaney says that there is plenty of positive days ahead for the Royals.

"The future is bright for Meath football," he said.

"Meath started four players in the Leinster semi-final that started two years ago against Louth in the Leinster final.

"It was an 11-men turnaround. This is a great group of young fellas and one thing about these guys is that they will do anything for a manager.

"I'm really proud of the turnaround the young fellas have made and how the older lads have rowed in behind them in trying to do the job."
