Sad to report the tragic death of 22 year old Blackhall Gaels player Peter Burke

Peter arrived in Australia eight months past and was extremely popular figure with his travelling friends and in a short space of time gained huge respect from his employers.

At home he was one of the top hurlers with the Blackhall club and gained a minor Division Two football trophy with the club in 2006. Operating at right half forward (his fathers favoured spot) Peter notched 1-1 as Skryne were sent packing.

Peter's father Jimmy was one of the mainstays of the old Kilcloon club and later became heavily involved with the Blackhall Gaels amalgamation. Jimmy has worn the Meath jersey at all underage and both junior and senior county levels.

Peter's sister Jane Burke was one of the top lady footballers in the county for years. He is also a cousin of present county senior player Mickey Burke.

The Australian based Irish Echo newspaper reported on the tragedy, with a memorial service taking place in Queensland.
