Donaghmore Ashbourne's second team recorded another league win to maintain their good run of form in the B1 All county league.
Overall the home side were in control and looked to be heading for a comfortable winning margin but allowed the visitors back into the game in the final quarter.
Simonstown Gaels opened the scoring with a well worked team score within 40 seconds of the throw in and it looked early on as if this was going to be a close contest. At the other end the home side did have a lot of possession and managed to register 5 wides before Leon Tormey opened the scoring with a 30 meter effort on 9 minutes. The home side quickly added their second score a minute later when Conor Carey fired low into the net from 10 meters out. Mattie Devine pointed from a free on 15 minutes and Eric Callaghan opened his account with an 30 meter effort on 18 minutes. Simonstown did reply with a point on 19 minutes and this was followed with both teams trading a brace of point in consecutive minutes. The home side scores came from Callaghan and Devine. Donaghmore Ashbourne finished the half with a further 4 unanswered points from Evan Rogers on 25, David Murtagh on 27, Keith Scally on 28 and Devine on 30 minutes respectfully.
The home side extended their lead in the early in the second half with points from Callaghan on 34 and Devine with a fisted point on 36 minutes and a 20 meter strike on 37 minutes. Points from substitute Ciaran Finn on 39 and Scally on 41 had given the home side a very comfortable advantage heading to the final quarter.
However the visitors refused to give up and had the better of the final quarter. During this period they registered points on 46, 47, 49 and 51 minutes to reduce the deficit. Although Devine did reply with a point the Gaels were rewarded for their hard work when they broke through the home defence and fired to the net on 53 minutes. The visitor's final score of the game came on 55 minutes with Devine having the final say when he split the posts with a 45 with 2 minutes to go.
The victory maintains Donaghmore Ashbourne's good run in the league and they should be happy with the result.
