BFL2: Comfortable win for Kellsmen

Gaeil Colmcille still remain top of the table after a seven point victory over visitors St Colmcilles played in Grangegodden on Monday night.

The Gaeils, playing against a strong breeze, found themselves behind 1-04 to 0-04 at the end of the first quarter. Thanks to excellent free taking by Freddie Newman and Barry Farrelly against the wind the Gaeils kept the pressure on and took the lead five minutes from half time, with points from play from Marty Barrett, long range frees from Cormac Keegan and Barry Farrelly, while Alan Tormey put two between them just before half time leaving the hosts leading 0-09 to 1-04 at the break.

Freddie Newman (0-02)f and a point from Barry Farrelly started the Gaeils' second half, but Colmcilles got to within one with a goal. Good defending by Eanna Ryan, James Flanagan and Daren Tormey kept the visitors scores limited to just two more points for the remainder of the match

The Colmcilles goalkeeper found it almost impossible to get any distance out of his kickouts against a strong wind. The Kellsmen took full advantage and finished with a flourish of points from Marty Barrett, Stevy McManus Freddie Newman and Joe Flanagan. Cormac Keegan kicked his second long-range free to Give the Gaeils a comfortable victory.
