St. Michaels bowed out of the U-16 league at the semi-final stage after they came out second best to Blackhall Gaels in a tense and exciting match played in Carlanstown on Tuesday evening.

Stephen Dolan opened the scoring for St. Michaels with a point straight from the throw-in, this was quickly cancelled out by Blackhall Gaels who drew level with their first attack on goal. The visitors added 2 further points before Stephen Dolan goaled for St. Michaels on 13 minutes to put them 1-1 to 0-3 ahead on thirteen minutes but Blackhall Gaels were on level terms within a minute and they added 4 unanswered points in the following 15 minutes as the home side could only manage one further point in the half on 31 minutes from Oran Meehan to leave St. Michaels trailing 1-2 to 0-9 at the break.

St. Michaels were first out of the blocks in the second half with 2 points in as many minutes from Luke Moran and Ray Reilly however the visitors hit back with a point on 34 minutes, Oran Meehan and Ray Reilly again added a further point apiece but Blackhall Gaels gradually took control around the middle of the field as they added 1-4 in a 13 minute spell midway through the second half. Try as they might St. Michaels could not break down the Blackhall Gaels defense however Oran Meehan converted a penalty on 50 minutes after he was brought down in the square. Thomas O'Brien and Ray Reilly added two more points to complete the scoring for St. Michaels. Blackhall Gaels failed to score in the final 8 minutes but they ran out deserved winners on a 2-13 to 2-8 scoreline.
