Co Board meeting: hurling games to move to Trim?

May 15, 2012

Meath hurlers deserve more support especially for home games.
Chairman Barney Allen suggested that the Meath senior hurling team deserve more than a couple of hundred supporters for home games at the May meeting of the County Committee.

Trim delegate Sean Gilsenan said that the attendances might be bigger if home matches reverted to St Loman's Park. Allen called for bigger support for next Saturday's Christy Ring Cup quarter-final clash with Kildare at Pairc Tailteann.

Gilsenan enquired about the suspension imposed on Meath minor football manager Andy McEntee by Leinster Council following an incident at a league match a few weeks ago.

The chairman said the suspension would expire this weekend.

John Shaw raised the thorny issue as to whether Sean Boylan was still director of football or not. Barney Allen fielded the question by saying the former Royals' boss was helping out with underage teams.

Gerry Fitzpatrick asked if the Meath under-21 football manager for 2013 could be appointed in June rather than in the autumn. The chairman said it was hoped to have the position filled before the July meeting.

Allen announced that the Pairc Tailteann development draw which was scheduled for mid-June may have to be put back a month.

County PRO Anne McDonnell expressed disappointment at the attendance at the open night for the Meath senior football team last Friday but agreed that the event had been hastily arranged.

It was announced that returned Meath forward Joe Sheridan is working as a co-ordinator for the Cul camps along with Dudley Farrell while Seamus Kenny, Jamie Queeney and Peter Durnin are carrying out part-time coaching duties.

Tributes were paid to the late Peadar Lehane of the Boardsmill club who passed away last month in his native west Cork. Peadar had served as a Hurling Board officer for 30 years and a large Meath representation made the long trip to his funeral.
