BFL1: Late scoring burst sees Dunshaughlin home

Dunshaughlin 2-9
Wolfe Tones 1-10

Dunshaughlin scored 1-3 in the closing stages to maintain their 100% B League Division 1 record by defeating Wolfe Tones on a chilly evening in Dunshaughlin.

The opening half was spoiled somewhat by a very strong cross wind which if anything favoured Wolfe Tones. The visitors opened the scoring after 3 minutes but with both sets of players struggling to adapt the next score didn't arrive until the 17th minute when David McMahon equalised. Two successive points from the visitors put them ahead by the 20th minute before midfielder Paddy McHale somehow scored a goal while grounded showing great improvisation in doing so. Two more Tones points restored their lead but two fine left footed points from James Rattigan meant Dunshaughlin went in at the break ahead by a point 1-3 to 0-5.

David Tonge extended the lead in the opening minute of the second half but Tones were level by the 37th minute with two points. A Rattigan free was made to count for little when the Kilberry outfit scored a goal in the 43rd minute. Rattigan reduced the deficit to the bare minimum in the 47t minute with a brilliant point from wide on the right. But three points from Tones had them four points to the good with only three minutes remaining. Rattigan pointed before quick thinking from the same player with a quickly taken free kick that found the unmarked McMahon who fired low to the net. Joe O'Brien was then fouled after a powerful run and Rattigan converted to give Dunshaughlin the lead which was quickly extended with a fine effort from Paddy Darby. Despite nearly five minutes of injury time Wolfe Tones could not do anything to prevent the Dunshaughlin victory.
