U16FL: Don/Ash victorious against Dunboyne/Kilbride
May 09, 2012

Donaghmore Ashbourne's Dylan Brady shakes hands with Philip Darcy, Dunboyne/Kilbride after the game.
Dunboyne/Kilbride 1-10
Don/Ash 1-11
Don/Ash came from behind in this must win encounter against table toppers Dunboyne/Kilbride. The match got off to a hectic start and the Ashbourne boys were struggling to stick with their men. Some of the Dunboyne/Kilbride play was superb, their backs and midfielders were able to pick out their forwards with deadly accuracy, in fact they were so much on top that it looked more like, how much would they win by, rather than, would they win? The Elusive Daire Boylan and the strong Philip Darcy were causing Ashbourne plenty of problems and they were assisted by superb defenders in Jordan McLoughlin, who threatened going forward and Patrick Peters, who put the shackles on Ashbourne danger man Paddy Roche. Cian (Packie Bonner) Field pulled off a great save to keep his side in the game, when they looked out of it.The sides went in at half time, Don/Ash, 4 points, Dunb/Kilb, 6 points.
The second half continued like the first, with Dunb/Kilb dominating and the Ash boys chasing shadows. Dunb/Kilb were rewarded during this period when Philip Darcy netted after fielding a great centre, to leave his side six points clear. Normally a goal is a turning point and this was certainly the case here except, when the Combination side scored it was all Ashbourne after that. Donagh O Donnell won everything in scoring zone, Paddy Roche scored points from impossible angles, Callum Leighburn ripped the net & Jack (Trevor) Giles gave a second half display that showed how to defend and attack. Dunboyne/kilbride will be wondering how it went wrong but at the same time the dominance of the visitors in the last quarter was such that they could have lost by more.
Best for Ashbourne, Conor Heffernan, Paddy Roche, John Wilson & Cian Field.
