Kilskyre 3-6

With Championship only three weeks away Blackhall sent out a warning shot on Tuesday night as they defeated a determined Kilskyre side on a somewhat miserable evening in North Meath.

When these two teams met last summer in the championship it was Kilskyre who came out on top but the Gaels extracted some revenge with a hard fought win to remain top of Division 2A.

James Battersby's men stated their intentions early, hitting the back of the Kilskyre net in the opening minutes thanks to Kevin Coyle. However this was cancelled out when Kilskyre struck with a three pointer of their own minutes later. The opening exchanges set the tone for the game as both sides looked to gain a early hold on proceedings in difficult conditions that weren't going to allow for a free flowing game. Dermot Carty was showing his class once again from placed balls with a string of frees. Kilskyre hit the net again and further points pushed them into a commanding lead in the second quarter. It could have been worse for the Gaels were it not for a fine save from a close free by keeper Emmet Dalton. Blackhall bounced back with a points from county man Stephen Morris and another goal from Colm Whitty. The half time score was 2-5 apiece.

Blackhall started the second half as they started the first scoring first from the stick of Carty and Morris. A penalty for Kilskyre seemed give them momentum but it was the Blackhall men who dug deepest. Carty again kept the scoreboard ticking over and Tom Murphy sent Blackhall into the lead with a point from distance. Kilskyre showed their determination and battled hard to find more scores but Blackhall defence worked tirelessly and seemed absorb everything that was thrown at them. Morris again struck while Kilskyre went in search of a winner but it was Blackhall who held on when Carty this time from play snatched the final score of the night.
