Geraghty career could be over

Meath's Graham Geraghty
Graham Geraghty could be forced out of intercounty football by a persistent Achilles problem.

The Meath veteran was coaxed out of retirement by manager Seamus McEnaney last year but has since endured a torrid time with injury and it seems that he may not recover from the most recent setback.

After rupturing the Achilles tendon in his right leg, the 1999 All-Ireland winning captain joined Banty's backroom team but was intent on making a return to on-field action this year.

The 38-year-old featured briefly in the league matches against Westmeath and Kildare this Spring but the injury has not responded to treatment and the player admitted in The Sun today that his season - and career - could be coming to an end unless there is an improvement soon:

"It just hasn't responded the way we had hoped so it is disappointing. But we'll just have to see, hopefully a bit of rest with help."
