JFC C: Dul/Bell and Michael's draw
May 07, 2012
Duleek/Bellewstown 2-08
St. Michaels 0-14
Duleek/Bellewstown travelled to Rathkenny to take on St. Michaels in their first round game of the Junior C Championship.
Duleek/Bellewstown were first off the mark with a point by Dylan Kearney after 7 minutes. Darren O'Connell opened the scoring for St. Michaels with a point after 9 minutes, John Stafford added a second 3 minutes later. The concession of two easy goals didn't help the St. Michaels cause but they recovered and fought back and further points from Patrick Flood 0-2, Michael Murphy, Darren O'Connell, Bobby Farrell and Sean Cassidy 0-1 each left St. Michaels trailing by just 2 points.
While a converted 45 by Jamie Flaherty got the east Meath side back into the game. A well taken goal by Gareth Reilly followed by points from Tony Andrews and Flaherty as well as a goal from full forward Seamus Curley left Duleek/Bellewstown ahead by 2 points at the break, 2-04 to 0-08.
Duleek/Bellewstown got the first score of the second half directly from the throw in. It was converted by Andrews who worked hard throughout the game.
St. Michaels' Alan Dolan switched positions with Jamie Farrelly between the posts for the second half and he registered a point 5 minutes after the restart. Indeed Andrews accounted for three of the second half scores from Duleek/Bellewstown with Raymond Hamilton getting the other. St. Michaels went 2 points clear approaching full time, helped by the dismissal of Duleek/Bellewstown midfielder Jamie Flaherty. However those late points from Andrews and Hamilton helped to secure a fair result in a draw at the final whistle. Top marksman on the night for the Michaels, Darren O'Connell hit 3 second half points as his comrades Michael Murphy and Sean Cassidy got a point apiece.
Best for Duleek/Bellewstown were Karl Reilly, Joey Joyce and Sean Kennedy in the backs, Simon Walsh and Jamie Flaherty at midfield, and the half forward line of Raymond Hamilton, Tony Andrews and Dylan Kearney.
