AFL3: Na Fianna goals whip Carnaross

May 07, 2012

Na Fianna's Michael Foley
Na Fianna 5-8
Carnaross 0-9

Na Fianna continued their unbeaten run in Division 3 of the 'A' Football League with a convincing victory over Carnaross in Enfield on Sunday morning.

Both teams entered this game as unbeaten but the visiting side's current difficulties in the IFC seemed to dent their confidence. While Na Fianna got into their stride quickly with an Ollie Lewis goal inside 5 minutes this was followed by two quick Carnaross points from Niall McDonnell to narrow the gap. However two excellent long range points from Mick Foley and Johnny Baldwin, coupled with a Dalton Mc Donagh goal and a Conor Downey free left the home side leading 2-3 to 0-5 at half time.

It was in the third quarter that Na Fianna exerted their 'all round' superiority with further points from Downey and Lewis and goals from McDonagh, Shane Barrett and Damien Downey. Cillian Comaskey pointed from play for Carnaross but Na Fianna replied with another goal followed soon afterwards by a point. Carnaross scored the last three points of the game through Niall McDonnell (2) and Patrick Nugent but the game was long over as a contest at that stage.

In a good team performance, Na Fianna were best served by Christy Cosgrove, Johnny Baldwin, Brian Queeney, Mick Foley and Dalton McDonagh.
