AFL1: Pat's comfortable against Castletown

St.Patrick's had a comfortable win in Castletown on Friday evening.

Despite the scoreline the game was very evenly contested in the first half, Pat's opened the scoring through a Niall Mooney point after 5 minutes and he quickly added another with a fisted effort a minute later. Wing-forward Barry Mooney then swung over a fantastic point from 35 yards before Castletown opened their account. Niall Mooney split the posts again and then converted a 30 yard free to put Pat's five points to one to the good.

Castletown then really hit their stride and scored four points in five minutes with some great scores to level up the scoreboard. Barry Mooney then doubled his tally with another classy point from distance but Castletown quickly levelled. Niall Mooney put Pat's back in front and then Barry Campbell scored a great lofted point from 40 yards. Castletown knocked over a fantastic 45 just on the stroke of halftime to leave the score St.Patrick's 0-08 Castletown 0-07 at halftime.

Castletown got the first score of the second half to level the game up and it looked like it was going to be a tight match but then Pat's really kicked into gear, danger-man Niall Mooney scored from the right wing before Darren Hagan knocked over a great point from 40 yards. Andy Mooney got a point after a fantastic pass by Niall Mooney and Niall followed this up by converting a 40 yard free and then tapping another point over the bar after a really good move. Castletown broke the run of scores when they fisted over a point on 42 minutes but from then on it was all St.Patrick's. Daithi Whyte grabbed a point and then knocked over a fantastic effort with his left foot.

Ray Russel got in on the act with a point after a great off the ball run and then sub Cormac Sullivan rose above everybody to fist a high ball to the back of the net for a goal. Niall Mooney got another good point and then Sullivan swung over a great point which he quickly followed up with a fisted effort. JP Ryan got a point before star-man Niall Mooney rounded off the scoring for the evening with a free and another great point after a good run. Despite a very tight first half the final score read St.Patrcik's 1-22 Castletown 0-09.

Best for the Pat's were Niall Mooney, Barry Mooney and Daithi Whyte.
