Former Meath manager Colm Coyle would have walked if he was in Banty's shoes.
Speaking on the
Sunday Sport programme on LMFM radio, Seneschalstown legend Coyle admitted that he would have stepped down if he was in the same boat as Seamus McEnaney:
"If you feel you are not wanted and if the players are not doing the business on the pitch - and he commented himself he's not getting the best out of them... if your County Board, who really are your bosses, if they don't want you either, then all the signs are there and personally I would have walked away from it.
"It's a results-driven game. You're judged on your results and to be relegated to Division Three is not ideal. The thing came up for review, the County Board weren't happy with it and thought they'd change horses mid-stream and, to be honest, I think they should have just let the season finish out.
The former Royal County defender also says his one-time manager Sean Boylan should have been left out of it...
"That should have been done on a one-to-one basis, it shouldn't have been brought out into the open into the media. In fairness to Seamus, he was still the manager, he was still in position and there was no vacancy there.
"The County Board certainly didn't cover themselves in glory dealing with that one from a PR point of view.
"This could well work out, though, as Seamus will have to bring his A game to the table. He's going to be really focussed and determined, and the players will be the same".
With heavy criticism aimed at the county board in recent days, Coyle said he had no problems with the board during his spell as county manager: "Brendan Dempsey was chairman when I was there first and Barney (Allen) for my last year and I had no problems at all. Anything we asked for we got, so everything was fine."
