U16FL: Don/Ash continue winning ways
April 19, 2012
Donaghmore/Ashbourne continued on their winning ways in another very competitive game, against neighbours Dunshaughlin.
This game was a very low scoring game, but this was more to do with the battle for possession than the lack of accuracy, indeed both teams should be commended for their efforts, which led to the result in the balance until the last five minutes. After some fine individual skill, Conor O'Dwyer Kicked a long range point which inspired his team mates to have a go and this brought reward for the Don/Ash boys. Dunshaughlin were a bigger stronger team led by Dan Ormsby, who scored all of Dunshaughlin's first half points to keep his side in the tie, as the teams went in at half time, 0-6 to 0-3 in favour of Ashbourne.
The second half continued with a period of dominance from Dunshaughlin, who were rewarded for their efforts with three points from play to level the match. At this point the Ashbourne forwards were struggling to get their hands on the ball and it was difficult to see where the scores would come from. Dylan Brady popped a point from play to edge Ashbourne in front, only to see Dunshaughlin level again. At this point the game was in the balance and could have went either way, but fresh legs from substitutes and superior fitness allowed Ashbourne to pull away with points from, Paddy Roche, a Dylan Brady free and a cracking point from Cian Wall from an impossible position.
Best for Dunshaughlin were Dan Ormsby and Josh Wall.
