Boardsmill got their Junior B Football Championship campaign off to a great start on Sunday 15th April in Gaeil Colmcille, Kells against Wolfe Tones. The 'Mill side racked up an early two point lead with scores from corner back Ray Hatton and half forward John Flood from their first two chances. After a number of wides, Wolfe Tones got their first point after 10 minutes. A long ball was kicked into corner forward David Farrell who netted the ball off his right foot from 10 yards out. He followed this up with a great point after an excellent pass from Alex Eivers for the 'Mill side to lead 1-03 to 0-02 at the break.
After the half time, Boardsmill were slow to get off the mark and let the Tones side come back into the match with four unanswered points. However Stephen Gibbons got the 'Mill side off the mark with an excellent left footed point from distance. Farrell again put his name on the score board with another excellent point and after a brilliant solo effort from corner forward Evan Dixon, passed to Farrell again to convert. Wolfe Tones followed up with another couple of points leaving only three between the sides. However Dixon, who grew with confidence as the game progressed called for the ball from mid-field and scored an excellent point from distance. He followed this up with a brilliant goal from play which finished off the 'Mill's scoring for the evening leaving them 2-07 to 0-10 victors. Best for Boardsmill were David Farrell and Evan Dixon.
The best players on the day for the Tones were Aodhan McKeown, Gordan Beggy, Gary McFadden, Donal Fogarty, Daragh Fagan and Ciaran Shaw.
