Summerhill bridged a 25-year gap when overcoming Dunshaughlin in the Meath Farm Machinery SFC final replay after extra time at Pairc Tailteann on Sunday.

Summerhill ......... 0-14
Dunshaughlin ...... 1-9

Having needed a Michael Byrne pointed free in the 60th minute to force the additional 20 minutes, Summerhill put a significant deposit on the Keegan Cup with four unanswered points in the first period of extra time.

'Man-of-the-match' Adrian Kenny got the sequence going with his sixth point from play. David Larkin, Byrne and Conor Gillespie with the other Summerhill scorers in this phase of the game.

Points from substitute Eoin Hagarty and Conor O'Dwyer were all breeze-asssisted Dunshaughlin could muster in the time remaining.

O'Dwyer did have a goal chance in the latter stages of extra time but it was comfortably dealt with by Summerhill 'keeper and captain Tony McDonnell.

A late Dunshaughlin line ball caused some unease in the Summerhill defence. The awarding of a free-out led to the last action of the game.

Playing towards the town goal, Summerhill opened brightly with three Kenny points in the opening ten minutes.

Nearly 14 minutes passed before Fergus Toolan opened Dunshaughlin's account from a free. It was quickly countered a Byrne effort from play.

Tommy Johnson's 16th minute goal revived Dunshaughlin and levelled matters. However, it proved to be their last score of the half.

Points in quick succession from Kenny, David Larkin and Brian Ennis (free) earned the favourites a 0-7 to 1-1 lead at the first interval. They would have been further ahead but for shooting eight wides for Dunshaughlin's two.

Dunshaughlin upped their game in the third quarter and despite falling three points in arrears once more regained parity by the 45th minute.

Points from Trevor Dowd (free), Tommy Johnson and John Crimmins left it 1-5 to 0-8 by the 45th minute. The closeness of the exchange masked what was at times a mediocre contest.

A Dowd free saw Dunshaughlin hit the front for the first time in the 49th minute. Team captain Ray Maloney doubled their lead moments later.

It was to be Dunshaughlin's last score in normal time. Summerhill were to add six scores on the spin before Gary Farrelly's men would register again.

Kenny pulled a point back for Declan McCabe's men in the 54th minute while Dunshaughlin were the more wasteful side in this phase of the game.
It seemed as if Dunshaughlin's Niall Murphy was fouled shortly before Byrne's leveller. Summerhill might have forged a winner in normal time but Stephen Kennedy took a last gasp 45 short to Byrne and referee David Gough correctly determined normal time had expired.

The momentum appeared to be with Summerhill and they went on to claim the title for the sixth time while Dunshaughlin talisman Caoimhin King limped off during the second half of extra time.
