Syddan suffered their 6th defeat in 7 games in this years A League Division 2 on Monday evening. Syddan were equal to Rathkenny up to the last 20 Minutes when Rathkenny pulled away for a comfortable win.
Rathkenny started well and had a 2 point lead inside 2 mins. Three frees from the boot of Brian Dillon gave Syddan a 1 Point Lead after 10 Minutes. Again Rathkenny took control and scored 4 Points in a row, another Brian Dillon free left 2 points between the teams after 20 Minutes. Rathkenny stretched their lead to 4 Points before Brian Dillon and Philip Meade reduced the deficit to 2 Points at Half Time 0-6 to 0-8.
The Visitors started the Second Half with a Point to extend the lead to 3 points, Syddan Replied with 2 points from Brian Dillon to close the gap to 1 Point. The games crucial moment came 10 mins into the second half. A Rathkenny player advanced into the box and was taken down and Rathkenny were awarded a Penalty which was converted to give the away side an 0-8 to 1-9 lead. Stephen Dillon scored a point in the 44th Minute to leave 3 Points between the sides, it also turned out to be Syddans last score of the game. Rathkenny scored 6 points in the last quarter to close out the game as deserving winners.
