IFC: Stalemate between Ballinlough and Dunderry

May 03, 2010

Ballinlough's Colm Mallon
Ballinlough 0-11
Dunderry 0-11

Two of the championship favourites met in Carlanstown on Friday evening and an injury time free denied Ballinlough their second win in a row.

Even though Ken Rothwell put the first score on the board for Ballinlough, Dunderry responded with a succession of points giving them a 0-5 to 0-1 lead. The unfortunate injury to Dunderry's Aron Newman caused a long delay in the game.

After the game resumed, Ballinlough responded well with the efficiently taken frees of Lorcan Maguire putting the game level at 0-6 each going into half-time.

Both teams traded points early in the second half, but Ballinlough were let of the hook by Dunderry's poor free taking. The tables were turned when Ballinlough took a four point lead with efforts from Peader Byrne, and Ken Rothwell.

Ballinlough failed to close out the game and the concession of a late free gave Dunderry the opportunity to draw level in final minutes.

Ballinlough were well served by Seamus Byrne, Seamus Fagan, Colm Mallon, Ronan McGuinness and Lorcan Maguire. Next up for Ballinlough is another local derby against rivals Kells.
