FL Div 10: Nobber no match for neighbours

April 22, 2024

Nobber's Gerard Campbell

Nobber 0 – 7 (7) Syddan 3 – 19 (28)

Nobber made the short trip across the North Meath countryside to face local rivals Syddan in their A League Division 10 encounter.

n what proved a very tough evening at the office for the Nobber men. It is one they will surely want to forget and move on from. A quick turnaround from their previous fixture v St Patrick’s Stamullen on the Tuesday may have contributed to high fatigue levels, albeit Syddan were deserved winners on the night.

Scores in the first half from Joe Tierney (2) and Karl Casserly (2) left the black and ambers going into the break with a tough assignment in the second half as they were trailing the green and yellow hoops of Syddan by 1 – 10 v 0 – 4.

Syddan continued their dominance in the second half with Nobber contributing 3 scores on the scoreboard coming from Evan Nelson, Jamie Duffy and Joe Tierney. A game not in the memory books for the black and ambers, however there were some welcome returns to action with a blend of youth and experience on the field for the Deesiders’.

Great to see Niall McMahon return between the posts, along with Cathal Cassidy who has had tough injuries to deal with in recent times. Gerry Campbell, Paddy O’Reilly, and Gordon Weldon all have vast amounts of experience and was great to see them don the black and amber jersey once again.

One notable statistic that will surely go down in the Nobber GAA folklore was that there was a father – son combination lined out together for Nobber. Thomas and Joe Tierney lined out for the Nobber men. This has left us wondering has this happened before with father-son combinations playing alongside each other in a competitive game for the club? Maybe some of our supporters and followers could comment and help us on this one?

Nobber team – Niall McMahon, Cathal Cassidy, Tony McEntee, Scott Farrell, Gerry Campbell, Pauric Weldon, Evan Nelson, Colin Clarke, Thomas Tierney, Paddy O’Reilly, Gordon Weldon, Jonny Donohoe, Jamie Duffy, Karl Casserly, Joe Tierney.

Subs used Dylan McCormack and Thomas McCormack
