Ballinabrackey 3-20 Oldcastle 0-04
Back in June when Championship draws were made group D looked like an exciting outfit but the question on everyone’s lips was who would advance to the quarter final. With all to play for on Saturday evening in Trim Gaa it was a must win game for The Bracks.
Having had a substantial win against Syddan they had another chance to prove they were strong contenders in this years IFC Championship. The Bracks had a great start against Oldcastle with the first score being the ball in the back of the net by Seamus Curry. Within minutes Seán Bannon was pulled down in the square and the Bracks were rewarded with a penalty, which was taken well by David Carroll. By the 8th minute Ballinabrackey had 2:01 on the board with no response from Oldcastle GAA. More brilliant points from Barry Thompson and Seamus Curry ensured Ballinabrackey we’re off to a flying start as they reached the first water break. Expecting a response from Oldcastle, Ballinabrackey were sure to be on the attack immediately. Damien Carroll slotted over a free with ease. At least twenty minutes were gone before Oldcastle managed to get there first score on the board. More points from Curry and Thompson and three in a row from Danny Quinn left the score line at half time as Ballinabrackey 2:09 to Oldcastles 0:02.
With a brilliant first half display the Bracks had to ensure that they kept the lead that they had built on in the first half and that is exactly what they did. Oldcastle just couldn’t find their feet as Ballinabrackey dominated with possession, catching majority of breaking ball. More points from Damien Carroll, Danny Quinn, Seamus Curry, Barry Thompson and David Carroll brought the Bracks to a score line of 2:16 to Oldcastles third point of the game at the end of the third quarter. Ballinabrackey began to make changes in the final quarter as they worked on building their score line up to ensure advancement out of the group. More excellent points from David Carroll and Quinner before a superb back of the net job by Sean Coffey kept the tally rolling. A brilliant score from Dean McNamee when he came on and full back Nicky Judge made his way to the forwards to score the final point of the match. Leaving the scoreline as Ballinabrackey 3:20 Oldcastle 0:04. A fantastic team performance by all Ballinabrackey players and they will be eager to continue their winning ways in the remainder of championship as clann na nGael awaits.
