IFC: Trim remain unbeaten

August 31, 2020

Bective's Sean Keating with Ger Dwane Trim during the Meath IFC game at St. Finians Park Clonard

Trim 2-14 Bective 0-10

Trim won this match with ease and never looked in trouble at any time during the seventy minutes played. In the past these type of matches could be banana skins for the Trim footballers but things have changed at St Lomans Park in the past couple of years. Brendan Murphy believes he’s now has assembled a very strong squad and few would disagree with him .

Bective set out their stall from the first minute playing with at least thirteen players behind the ball and making it very difficult to break down. Trim needed  to be patient and work to get into the shooting zones. Alan Douglas got the Town sides first point after just  thirty six seconds when it took possession of the ball went into contact , broke the tackle and slotted the ball over the bar .  Bective got on the score board from a placed ball in the fifth minute. Soon after in the sixth minute Aaron Lynch got his first of six points this point came after Eoin O’Connor was fouled. Bective were now shutting the shop , fourteen men behind the ball and in fairness they were executing their plan to great affect. The team in White kept Trim at bay and broke down attack after attack to frustrate the Trim attack . In fact Bective kept Trim scoreless for eleven minutes when In the sixteenth minute Mark Molloy took a great off the shoulder pass from the impressive Ciaran Joyce to slot over a lovely point. Aaron Lynch added a quick point from the kick out to give Trim a two point lead with seventeen minutes played. Bective made a rare attack which yielded a point in the twenty fifth minute. Then Trim got to grips with the Bective blanket defense scoring the next five points in a row. Two from Aaron Lynch , one each from Ciaran Joyce, Alan Douglas, Eoin O’Connor . The Trim team had found the way to beat the defensive tactics of Bective, the started to move the ball quickly, give and go off the shoulder passes with the player also looping back to create space.

Half Time : Trim 0-9 Bective 0-3

If Bective were to get anything out of this match they needed to com out of there ultra defensive plan and start committing more players forward. Bective got the first score of the second half in the fifth minute. Trim replied immediately with Conor Quigley winning the kick out , powering forward he passed to Ciaran Joyce , continued his run and Joyce popped a lovely off the shoulder pass back to Quigley who Cooley shot the ball over the black spot. From the kick out Robert Bourke won the kick out passed  a quick ball to Joyce who took on and beat two men and drew Eoin O’Connors marker , Joycie shipped the ball to the grateful O’Connor who blasted the ball to the back of the Bective net. This is a score that the game needed , Bective would now have to come out and attack which they did. Bective got the next score a lovely point from play. Then the game went into a bit of a lull with some wasteful shooting from both sides.  Trim restarted the scoring in the fifteenth minute of the second half and hit three points in a row in the following five minutes. Two from sharp shooter Aaron Lynch who was getting some very special attention from his marker. The other point came from the very affective Mark Molloy playing in the number ten shirt. An interesting fact of Molloy’s two points in this match , both came in the sixteenth minute of the half. Bective threw caution to the wind in the last ten minutes and were rewarded with three unanswered points  before The Reds put the game to bed with a rasper of a goal from Man of the Match Alan Douglas. The match ended with a Bective point and the Reds match onto the semi finals for the second year in a row.

Trim were good today and had many very good performance from the team. It would be unfair Not to highlight the performances given by Trim players Alan Douglas and Ciaran Joyce. They were both constantly demanding the ball and taking responsibility and showing great leadership throughout this match.  Douglas covered every blade of grass in Clonard yesterday and at one stage was as far back as the full back line. Joyce gave a huge performance and can be very happy with himself .

Trim have every chance of winning the championship this year but must keep their feet on the ground an  the shoulder to the wheel now and work hard to achieve this. Hard work and commitment to the club and to the team environment is what is required over the next few vital weeks.
