SYDDAN 1-11  OLDCASTLE 2-5

Syddan finished with 13 players but also the points from this crucial Group D IFC match at Nobber on Saturday.

Wing forward Cormac Rowe was red carded in the third quarter and then substitute Kevin Garland was sin-binned in the closing minutes. However Syddan had enough in the tank to see the game out.

The winners found scores a little easier to come by throughout and their defence continually frustrated Oldcastle's best efforts.

Daire Rowe accounted for five points as Davy Cahill's charges led 0-8 to 1-2 at the break.

Both Oldcastle points came in the first six minutes from Dylan Galligan and Colin Hawdon. Syddan went 0-5 to 0-2 clear in the opening quarter but Oldcastle were back level when CJ Healy converted a penalty on 28 minutes.

Rowe hit three successive points after that to give his side the advantage at the break.

A second goal, this time from Paddy Gilsenan had Oldcastle back level by the 34th minute and they went ahead following a point from Healy.

Kevin Traynor had Syddan's first point of the second half on 42 minutes and the sides then swapped scores to be still level heading into the final quarter.

CJ Healy pointed Oldcastle ahead again but despite their numerical disadvantage it was Syddan who finished strongest.

Midfielder Kevin Traynor struck for a crucial goal and Syddan kicked on after that with points from Rowe and Traynor to seal a deserved win.
